Time To Step Up For Darcy

12 hours after Markos's initial challenge, we're half way to the goal of raising $150k to help Darcy get to $400,000 across ActBlue so she can get through July without having to fundraise. Right now, she's at about $325k. Really amazing. If you haven't given, please do. - Todd

As you may have heard, Darcy Burner's house was destroyed.

And as a candidate, she now has to make a choice with every minute of her time: spend it with family to get things in order, or go back to raising money for her campaign.

Markos issued a challenge: let's get her up to $400,000 across ActBlue and give her some breathing space to spend with he family instead of fundraising.

Says Kos:

One last point: Darcy is a huge netroots sensation because she is truly one of us -- a former Microsoft exec who is a geek at heart, and someone who has been with us on the war and FISA since she first started running in 2005. Some politicians can put up a facade or say the right things for the right audience, but there's no faking it when you've just run out of your burning house, seeing all your worldly possessions go up in flames as you frantically try to ensure your family is safe.

Look at the shirt she was wearing.

She is family.

So let's pitch in and help one of our leaders in a time of need.

Re: I think (2.00 / 2)

Kudos then!

Markos can raise that kind of dough and I'm glad he is doing his part (as is MyDD with this frontpage post) to help out under such tragic circumstances. That's kind of where I was going with it.

I can't imagine how hard is must be to lose everything.

Come on everyone! (2.00 / 2)

I think many of us are taking for granted that we will win big this November but as Goldy said...
http://www.horsesass.org/?p=5120

[...] that's XML for "end war." And the fact that this was the shirt that Darcy was wearing at 7AM when she and her family fled their burning house, tells us in the netroots all we need to know about Darcy Burner [...]

Darcy needs to raise about $150,000 this July to keep pace with Dave Reichert and her own 2006 fundraising, and everyday she takes off makes her campaign budget that much harder to hit. That's about $5,000 a day.

And that's why I'm joining with bloggers nationwide to ask our readers to contribute what they can today, to help give Darcy the breathing room she needs to tend to her own affairs without worrying about neglecting her campaign. Every $5,000 increment we raise represents a day that Darcy won't have to dedicate to her own fundraising efforts. It is a gift more precious than money; it is a gift of time.

The fact that she is not raking in the dough this year baffles me. Is it because we are all small dollar donators who do not have much and most of it has been going to Obama, Clinton, Edwards, etc?

Are we forgetting about the local and state races?

If I had to guess... (2.00 / 2)

... first the primary and now the presidential race has sucked a lot of the air out of the room.

From Goldy... (2.00 / 1)

Darcy has selflessly requested that you donate money to your local animal shelter or Firefighter's Benevolent Society, but she needs our help as well. So please give Darcy the time (by donating to her campaign - add by me) to get her house in order, so that come November, she can help us get our House in order too.

Re: Come on everyone! (2.00 / 1)

i think that's the problem. Too many folks have put a lot of money into the presidential primary and have less to spend on really important house, senate and other local/state races.

that was one of the things that was maddening about the primary. So many resources spent on a contest decided back in March.

But in any regards, I gave to Darcy a few nights ago and it looks like I'll give to her again once I get home from the studio. Not that I can give a lot since I'm in graduate school but $25 is $25. Anyone who doesn't usually give want to match my $25?

Thanks for the diary Josh.

I'll take a twenty too as long as you're giving out money.

Sure, I'm not a great progressive netroots hero like Darcy, but I... damn, never mind.

I kicked in $25, I wish it could be more. She's the kind of Dem we need MORE of in Congress.

Silver lining (2.00 / 1)

This was a terrible tragedy.  But if this is what local news organizations are running it can't help but be good for Darcy's campaign as it shows her grace, courage, spirit and grounded values.

Now let's all pitch in and help her have the resources to win.

Re: Time To Step Up For Darcy (none / 0)

Just stuff, eh?  So Tyler Durden got to Darcy too?  Wait a minute, she's so cool about all this, just like...it's because they're the same person?!?!?

Seriously though, when Darcy pounds Reichert's ass in November like Ed Norton pounded Jared Leto's face it will be so satisfying after all of this.  The fact that as a challenger she spearheaded the effort to offer a clear, reasonable alternative path to get us out of Iraq was of course the best reason to support a Netroots challenger that any candidate gave us in this cycle.  But watching how she's handling all of this, I know she's made of good stuff and headed for big things in the future.  We should invest in her now and early on in her career because we know she's capable of it and she'll produce results, not just because she had this problem.  Our goal should be $500,000 from ActBlue by the end of the month.

She is running for the seat my district.  I gave through the Dkos Act Blue page as well.  I can't wait to see her kick the Third Reich's ass.
